Pages twenty and twenty one of the Revised Edition of 'An Account of the Wicksteed Park & Trust Booklet' page twenty details a number of developments that took place in the Park between 1934 and 1939: 1934 - Opening of the aviary which was home to many birds and animals "The antics of the monkeys are a never-ending source of amusement to the thousands of children and grown-ups who watch them, and their popularity has made it necessary to build a monkey-house apart from the bird aviaries." 1935: The erection of an Ice-Cream Plant, with pure ice-cream being sold at both the ice cream parlour and travelling burrows around the park, the ice cream had been awarded Diplomas of Merit from Dairy and Ice Cream Exhibitions 1936: the doubling of size of the Children's Paddle-Boat Pool 1938: The installation of a Joy Wheel 1939: The Water-Chute was rebuilt. Page twenty one shows a black and white photograph of the aviary. |
